Trump prefers diplomatic solutions for the Iran crisis

USA – In a significant address to a joint session of the United States Congress, President Donald Trump has expressed a clear preference for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions with Iran. Delivering his State of the Union speech in Washington, D.C., the President informed lawmakers that while his administration remains engaged in negotiations, the primary objective continues to be the total prevention of Iran obtaining nuclear weaponry.

The President noted that while Iranian officials appear open to reaching an agreement, they have yet to provide the necessary assurances regarding the permanent cessation of their nuclear programme. He emphasised that his administration would remain firm on this requirement, describing the Iranian government as a leading global sponsor of terrorism. Despite this stern characterisation, Mr Trump reiterated that his favoured path is one of dialogue and negotiation rather than military escalation.

The speech comes at a pivotal moment as the United States approaches mid-term elections. By framing the Iranian issue as a matter of global security that can be settled through high-level statecraft, the President appeared to be seeking a balance between a rigorous foreign policy and a desire to avoid further conflict in the Middle East.
