Muscat – Markets and shopping centres across Oman are showing strong readiness and brisk consumer activity ahead of Ramadan, as government entities and private sector players coordinate to secure supplies, stabilise prices and ensure smooth market operations during the peak season.

Businesses have moved early to manage the anticipated surge in demand for fresh produce and essential food items by increasing inventories, diversifying import sources and streamlining supply chains. In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources said 129,875 live animals – 9,456 cattle and 120,419 sheep – were imported since the beginning of February, alongside 88 import permits approved, reinforcing supply to meet Ramadan needs.

The ministry also confirmed the availability of fish throughout Ramadan, citing close coordination with fish marketing firms, transporters and retailers. Contingency plans are in place to maintain supplies even during adverse weather that may affect fishing. Authorities continue to regulate supplies to local markets in line with seasonal catch volumes to maintain reasonable quantities and prices for households.

The Silal Fruit and Vegetable Central Market in Khazaen Economic City is operating under an integrated Ramadan plan aimed at higher operational readiness and expanded capacity. Preparations include stronger coordination with domestic and international suppliers, faster clearance procedures and improved transportation.

Backed by high-capacity cold storage, a fully equipped trading hall and modern logistics services, the market has received more than 520 shipments carrying over 12,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables since the beginning of the month, underscoring efforts to maintain abundance and supply stability.

In Dhofar, officials report ample availability of food commodities following early preparations and close public-private coordination. Stocks of staples such as rice, sugar, flour, oils, meat and poultry, as well as fruits and vegetables, are assessed as sufficient, with no shortages recorded.

Similar conditions are reported in South Batinah, where markets are seeing stable trading, diverse offerings and a steady supply of goods, supported by ongoing municipal monitoring.

In Musandam, inspection campaigns confirm adequate supplies of vegetables, fruits, poultry, eggs and dairy products, along with price stability. Field visits also covered Lima in Khasab to ensure uninterrupted flows.

Authorities in Dakhliyah have stepped up food safety and health inspections, increasing visits to food establishments, slaughterhouses and meat outlets while monitoring hygiene, storage and transport standards.

Dhahirah also announced full readiness for Ramadan through expanded inspection drives on food outlets and retail establishments. Consumer protection teams are intensifying market surveillance, price monitoring and awareness campaigns to curb violations and unfair practices.
