MUSCAT : The agreement aims to align waste management practices with national environmental protection goals and sustainability priorities, while organising and improving mechanisms for handling industrial and hazardous waste generated by companies operating in Madayn’s industrial estates.

The programme was signed by Eng. Dawood bin Salem Al Hadabi, CEO of Madayn, and Eng. Tariq bin Ali Al Amri, CEO of be’ah.

Eng. Ibtisam bint Ahmed Al Shanfari, Specialist Director of Environmental Affairs at Madayn, said the cooperation seeks to establish an integrated waste management system in line with approved environmental standards. The initiative focuses on increasing recycling rates, reducing waste sent to landfills, enhancing environmental compliance among industrial facilities, and lowering carbon emissions through innovative solutions such as material and energy recovery. It also includes awareness and training programs to promote a culture of sustainability among investors and workers in the industrial sector.

She described the agreement as a qualitative step toward advancing the circular economy and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, noting that industrial waste management remains a key challenge due to the diversity of solid, liquid, and hazardous waste streams requiring specialized solutions based on international best practices.

Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Kharousi, Assistant Director of Commercial Affairs at be’ah, said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships to support environmental sustainability in Oman. He noted that cooperation with Madayn will enhance operational efficiency in industrial cities and ensure waste management aligns with global standards and circular economy objectives.

Al Kharousi added that the near completion of a dedicated industrial waste treatment facility will provide companies with efficient and safe solutions for handling hazardous waste, ensuring high standards of safety and environmental compliance.

Under the agreement, both parties will establish a joint framework outlining implementation mechanisms, including registering companies operating in industrial cities within be’ah’s systems, organising waste transport routes, and ensuring proper sorting, classification, and repackaging in accordance with approved standards. Be’ah will also provide technical support in waste classification and cost assessment, share relevant treatment data, and support joint inspections to ensure compliance with local and international environmental regulations.
