Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) has announced the commencement of comprehensive marine surveys as part of a strategic project to assess fish stocks in the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman. The research is being conducted by the specialised vessel, R/V Dr Fridtjof Nansen, with the first phase of operations scheduled to take place between February 13 to 24, 2026. This initial survey will focus on the maritime area extending between the Wilayat of Shinas and the Wilayat of Sur.
To ensure the safety of the mission and the accuracy of the data collected, the Ministry has issued an advisory to all fishermen and sea-goers to maintain a safe distance from the vessel’s designated paths. Individuals are strictly urged not to interfere with the research activities and to refrain from setting nets, cages, or any other fishing equipment at depths starting from 20m and above within the specified period. The Ministry intends to provide regular updates regarding the vessel’s operational areas and has called for full public cooperation to facilitate this significant national project.
