Izki – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has installed impact-absorbing safety barriers along a hazardous stretch in the Wilayat of Izki as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related injuries.
In a statement, the ministry said flexible crash cushions have been fitted over a distance of approximately 300m at dangerous curves in the Farq area of Izki. The project was implemented by the Maintenance Department in cooperation with the Roads Department in Dakhliyah Governorate.
According to the ministry, the newly installed barriers are designed to lessen the severity of vehicle collisions near road edges. In the event of an impact, the cylindrical units rotate around their (axis), absorbing energy and minimising rebound force, thereby reducing the risk of vehicle rollover or severe damage.
The crash cushions have been developed in line with precise engineering standards and have undergone internationally approved impact tests to ensure their effectiveness under various collision scenarios.
The initiative forms part of the ministry’s broader strategy to enhance road infrastructure safety across the Sultanate and provide greater protection for motorists, particularly in high-risk locations.
