MUSCAT: Wadi Al Ma’awal recorded the highest rainfall in Oman over the past 24 hours, receiving 73 mm, as widespread showers impacted several parts of the Sultanate, according to official data.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources said Al Seeb followed with 66 mm of rainfall, while Al Rustaq recorded 57 mm. Other heavily affected areas included Suwaiq (49 mm), Saham (40 mm), Barka (40 mm), and Nakhal (36 mm).

Moderate rainfall was also reported in Ibri (33 mm), Sinaw (31 mm), Ibra (30 mm), and Mudhaibi (30 mm), with several other wilayats receiving lighter showers ranging from 1 mm to 29 mm.

The downpours led to water accumulation in wadis and low-lying areas, disrupting traffic movement in parts of Muscat and Al Batinah, while authorities urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid flooded roads.

Looking ahead, Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has warned that unstable weather conditions are expected to continue on Sunday, with forecasts indicating heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong downdraft winds.

The weather system is expected to impact Al Buraimi, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, and parts of North and South Al Sharqiyah, with a risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.

Authorities have advised residents to stay updated through official channels and avoid crossing wadis, as rapidly changing conditions could pose safety risks
