SINGAPORE: Industry analysts say the development could significantly expand China’s semiconductor capacity. It also highlights the country’s continued investment in high-tech manufacturing and innovation.

The push to produce 7nm chips is a major step for China’s technology industry, which is seeking to close the gap with global leaders in semiconductor manufacturing. It reflects the government’s strategy to reduce dependence on foreign chip suppliers.

These advanced chips are widely used in smartphones, artificial intelligence systems, high-performance computers, and other modern technologies. Chinese authorities are investing billions of dollars in semiconductor research, development and production as part of a broader national strategy to achieve technological independence. Experts believe that if domestic companies can start large-scale production of advanced chips, it could strengthen China’s position in the global technology market, while reducing dependence on imported semiconductors.
