MUSCAT — Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Oman have left three people dead and triggered the rescue of more than 40 individuals from flood-hit areas, authorities said on Saturday, as unstable weather conditions continued to impact several regions.
Oman’s Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said emergency teams were deployed across multiple governorates to assist people stranded in wadis, flooded roads and low-lying areas following intense downpours.
The fatalities were reported in South Al Batinah Governorate, where three vehicles were swept away by fast-flowing water in Wadi Al Maawil. One person was rescued in good condition, while the remaining three victims were later confirmed dead after search operations concluded, the authority said.
Across the country, more than 40 people were rescued from various locations as rising water levels disrupted movement and posed risks to motorists and residents.
The downpours led to water accumulation in wadis and low-lying areas, disrupting traffic movement in parts of Muscat and Al Batinah, while authorities urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid flooded roads.
Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said unstable weather conditions were affecting several governorates, bringing heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong downdrafts.
The authority warned that conditions are expected to persist on Sunday, with forecasts indicating heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds.
The weather system is expected to impact Al Buraimi, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, and parts of North and South Al Sharqiyah, raising the risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have advised residents to follow official updates and avoid crossing wadis, warning that rapidly changing conditions could pose serious safety risks.
Emergency teams remain on high alert as Oman continues to face volatile weather conditions.
