MUSCAT — Oman and Italy have reaffirmed dialogue and peace as central pillars of their relationship, stressing the importance of diplomatic engagement and peaceful solutions in addressing regional and international challenges.
In a joint statement issued following talks between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Muscat on Wednesday, both sides emphasised their shared commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law.
The statement highlighted the two countries’ alignment on the need to promote dialogue, constructive engagement and confidence-building measures as effective tools for conflict resolution. His Majesty expressed appreciation for Italy’s role in backing dialogue-driven approaches and peaceful initiatives, while the Italian Prime Minister commended Oman’s longstanding and pivotal role in facilitating dialogue and contributing to regional peace and stability.
Building on this shared outlook, Oman and Italy also reaffirmed their intention to further strengthen their strategic partnership. The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment and industry, encourage stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, and activate joint committees to boost bilateral trade.
The statement further noted agreement on preparing a joint action plan for the 2026–2030 period to follow up on the implementation of memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries. Cooperation in culture, heritage, higher education and scientific research was also highlighted as an important area for continued exchange and development.
