MUSCAT : In its official statement, the committee confirmed that Wednesday, February 18, will complete the month of Sha’ban 1447 AH.
The decision was based on astronomical findings which confirmed that the crescent moon set on Tuesday, the 29th of Sha’ban 1447 AH, before or at sunset across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. As a result, it was deemed impossible to sight the moon on that day.
Accordingly, the committee declared that Thursday, February 19, 1447 AH, will be the first day of Ramadan, ushering in the holy month observed by Muslims through fasting, prayer, and reflection.
