Muscat – Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has launched a nationwide Ramadan initiative to distribute 40,000 iftar vouchers valued at more than RO1.2mn, aimed at supporting Omani families and reinforcing social solidarity during the holy month.

The initiative is part of the organisation’s seasonal humanitarian programmes designed to ease financial pressures on families and ensure food security during Ramadan, a period marked by increased household spending.

Badr bin Mohammed al Zaabi, Acting CEO of OCO, said the initiative specifically targets deserving families across the sultanate through a structured and transparent distribution mechanism. He explained that the vouchers are being handed over to governors in various governorates, who also serve as chairmen of social development committees, to ensure these reach eligible beneficiaries in coordination with relevant local entities.

“The initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to standing alongside families in need during Ramadan and promoting the values of compassion and social cohesion that define Omani society,” Zaabi said.

He added that the total cost of the initiative exceeds RO1.2mn, underlining the scale of the organisation’s efforts to provide meaningful and timely assistance. “The programme has been carefully planned to maximise its social impact and to ensure that support is delivered efficiently to those most in need.”

He informed that OCO continues to work closely with government bodies and community institutions to strengthen the effectiveness of its humanitarian programmes and contribute to social stability across the sultanate.

He stressed that institutional charitable work plays a vital role in reinforcing community resilience, particularly during religious seasons that emphasise giving, solidarity and shared responsibility.

The Ramadan iftar voucher initiative is part of a broader package of charitable and social programmes implemented annually by OCO, in line with its mission to support vulnerable groups, enhance social welfare and contribute to sustainable community development throughout Oman.
