MUSCAT— Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on Tuesday that Oman continues to play a constructive and influential role in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington, highlighting the Sultanate’s long-standing mediation efforts amid regional tensions.
Speaking in an interview with Oman Television during a visit to Muscat, Larijani said his meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik reflected a “clear and well-defined vision” by Oman to strengthen bilateral relations and promote stability at the regional and international levels.
Larijani said Iran attaches importance to advancing ties with Oman, describing the relationship between the two countries as rooted in strong historical foundations and close political understanding.
He described Oman’s role in preparing the ground for dialogue between Iran and the United States as “highly positive,” citing Muscat’s deep understanding of regional dynamics and its familiarity with previous negotiation tracks.
Larijani said earlier rounds of talks had shown gradual progress, adding that Iran is prepared to engage in negotiations whenever conditions are realistic and conducive. He noted that the next phase could offer opportunities for strategic de-escalation or, at minimum, a political repositioning depending on the outcomes of dialogue.
Oman has long acted as a intermediary between Iran and Western powers, leveraging its neutral foreign policy to support diplomatic engagement and help ease tensions in the Gulf and wider region.
