MUSCAT – The Embassy of India in Muscat has expressed its deepest condolences following the death of an Indian national aboard the oil tanker MKD Vyom, which was attacked off the coast of Oman.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the Embassy said it was “deeply saddened” by the tragic demise of the Indian crew member and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
“The Embassy of India expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of an Indian national on board MKD Vyom,” the statement said.
The embassy confirmed that it is in close coordination with Omani authorities to facilitate the safe and early repatriation of Indian nationals who were on board the vessel. It added that all possible assistance is being extended in the matter.
The incident occurred approximately 52 nautical miles off the coast of Muscat Governorate, where the tanker reportedly sustained damage following an attack that triggered a fire and explosion in the engine room.
Authorities have not released further details on the circumstances surrounding the strike. Omani officials and maritime security agencies continue to monitor the situation.
The vessel had multiple crew members on board at the time of the incident. The Embassy reiterated its commitment to ensuring support for those affected and maintaining close coordination with local authorities as investigations and response efforts continue.
