MUSCAT – Under the glow of Muscat’s festive nights, colourful works created by young artists have added a distinctive visual presence to the event, engaging the public and enriching the cultural landscape.

Originally a form of individual expression, graffiti has evolved into a modern visual language that conveys the perspectives of youth and fosters dialogue between artists and society. Its inclusion in Muscat Nights aims to promote artistic and cultural awareness, encourage self-expression, and provide a creative platform that moves beyond traditional artistic boundaries.

Known for its immediacy and strong connection with public spaces, graffiti art allows direct interaction between the artwork and its audience. Its participation in national celebrations such as Muscat Nights supports contemporary art forms, enhances visual appreciation, and brings artistic beauty to public spaces in a way that resonates strongly with young people.

Graffiti artist Hud bin Ismail Al Balushi described the art form as a free and unrestricted means of expression. “Graffiti is an art outside the official framework, through which artists can express themselves freely and assert their identity in society,” he said. Speaking about his participation, Al Balushi explained that his work draws inspiration from the occasion itself, incorporating Omani heritage and values that reflect national pride. He added that graffiti serves as a voice for the voiceless, conveying messages either clearly or through symbolic artistic expression.

Another participating artist, Muath bin Suhail Al Mughaizi, said Muscat Nights provided a valuable opportunity to redefine graffiti art within Omani society and highlight the creative potential of local youth. He noted that the experience stood out due to the scale of the artworks, the organisation of the venue, and the strong interaction with visitors, adding that such engagement often inspires new creative ideas.

Youssef bin Hilal Al Ghamlasi, also a graffiti artist, highlighted the role of Muscat Nights in showcasing and investing in Omani artistic talent. He said the integration of graffiti into cultural events has helped introduce both local and international visitors to contemporary Omani visual art, turning it into a modern tourist attraction. He added that collaborative work among artists enhanced the aesthetic quality of the artworks and strengthened creative cooperation, resulting in a richer and more cohesive visual experience.
