
Muscat – Omani champion Hamed al Wahaibi is preparing to participate in the Jordan International Baja, which will be held between February 12 and 14, representing the second round of the FIA World Baja Cup.
Al Wahaibi previously participated in the Hail International Baja, the opening round of the World Cup, where he managed to achieve first place in both the Challenger and Masters categories among World Cup-ranked competitors, and he is currently at the top of the standings.
The Omani star seeks to achieve a strong result in the Jordan International Baja, aiming to maintain the championship lead and score as many points as possible through the continued harmony between him and his Polish navigator Maciej Giemza, who accompanied him in the Hail International Baja.
Al Wahaibi also continues to use the Can-Am Maverick R Challenger in the Challenger category, within the ranks of Team RX Sport under the supervision of Emirati champion Rashed al Ketbi.
The Omani driver said: “I look forward to achieving a strong result in this rally. The championship lead must be maintained. I am also very happy to be working with my new Polish navigator Maciej Giemza, and I am confident in the possibility of achieving more strong results together.”
He added: “I am confident that we will work in this round as an integrated team and gain more experience that will be reflected in our performance”.
The participation of Omani champion comes as part of his series of preparations throughout 2026 to participate in the prestigious Dakar Rally, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next year.
The Jordan Baja will take the Hyatt Regency Aqaba – Ayla as its headquarters, where the competitions will extend over three days across various terrains in southern Jordan, led by the charming Wadi Rum desert, which has seen the filming of many Hollywood movies. The total distance is 821.69 km, of which 472.19 km are timed competitive stages, subject to FIA approval.
The competition kicks off on Thursday with a 15.50 km prologue stage to determine the starting positions of the competitors, located 58 km from the city of Aqaba. This is followed by Friday’s first special stage in the Al Humaima area, covering 245.02 km through the Wadi Rum desert.
Saturday, will see the second and final desert stage of 211.67 km, before the prize-giving ceremony and the final press conference at the Ayla Resort.
