Salalah – Work on dualisation of Farooq Street in the Sahalnout area of Salalah is at an advanced stage with 95% of the project completed, officials said.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with Dhofar governorate, as part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity within Salalah.

Spanning 7.6km, the project involves upgrading the existing road into a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. It includes the construction of 7m-wide service roads on both sides, in addition to safety features and supporting infrastructure designed to ease congestion and enhance road safety.

Officials said the project would improve links between residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas in Sahalnout, one of Salalah’s fast-developing districts, and ensure smoother daily movement for motorists.

Construction began on March 26, 2024 and completion is scheduled for March 15, 2026. Once operational, the upgraded road is expected to improve the overall road network in Dhofar and support urban expansion in Salalah.

In Dhofar, construction is also under way on the Harweeb-Al Mazunah-Miten road to improve connectivity with remote areas and support logistics and services. Dualisation of the Raysut–Mughsayl road is also progressing.

The projects form part of a wider programme of strategic road developments under way across the sultanate to improve connectivity, ease traffic flow and support economic growth.

In Dakhliyah, work continues on dualisation of the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road between Adam, Haima and Thumrait, a key corridor linking the interior with central and southern regions. Progress is also being made on dualisation of the Izki-Nizwa road (South Qarnout–Firq), enhancing access between major population centres.

In Muscat, work is advancing on dualisation of the Al Ansab-Al Jifnain road to improve traffic movement in the Greater Muscat area, while expansion of Muscat Expressway remains a key project aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic efficiency across the metropolitan area.

Meanwhile, construction continues on Sultan Turki bin Said Road, part of the Sharqiyah Expressway, specifically the Al Kamil wa al Wafi-Sur section, to enhance connectivity to coastal wilayats and support tourism and trade.
