MUSCAT: More than 31,000 workers were booked for violating labour regulations during around 15,000 inspection visits carried out by labour welfare teams, Oman’s Ministry of Labour said during its annual media briefing.

The ministry said the violations were identified as part of intensified inspection campaigns aimed at strengthening compliance with labour laws and regulating employment practices across sectors.

Officials noted that inspection drives remain a key enforcement tool to curb irregular employment, protect workers’ rights and ensure adherence to legal requirements by both employers and employees.

The briefing also highlighted progress under the Wage Protection System (WPS), with more than 141,000 establishments registered and over 91,000 compliant. Compliance among large establishments has reached 99.8%, reflecting improved wage payment discipline and monitoring mechanisms.
