Bangladesh – Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has died at the age of 80 following a prolonged period of ill health. She passed away early on Tuesday morning at a private hospital in the capital, Dhaka, where she had been receiving specialised treatment for multiple chronic conditions including liver disease and heart complications.

As the first woman to lead the nation, she served two separate terms as Prime Minister and remained a pivotal figure in the country’s political development for over three decades. Her passing marks the end of a significant era for the nation, as she was widely regarded as one of the most influential leaders in its history. Tributes have begun to pour in from across the region as the country enters a period of mourning for the veteran stateswoman.
