MUSCAT – The Royal Navy of Oman rescued 24 crew members from a Malta-flagged cargo vessel after it was struck by two missiles near the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by Oman TV on Wednesday.
The navy responded to a distress call from the commercial ship after it reportedly came under missile attack in waters close to the strategic maritime passage, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Authorities said all 24 crew members aboard the vessel were successfully evacuated during the rescue operation. They were provided with necessary medical care and were reported to be in good health.
