New York – The Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly has issued a high-level call for an immediate cessation of military escalation in the Middle East, urging a swift return to negotiations between Iran and the United States. In a formal statement released from New York, the Council expressed its profound concern regarding the outbreak of military hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The body emphasised that the current use of force constitutes a direct violation of the United Nations Charter and presents a severe threat to international peace and security.

In its appeal for de-escalation, the Council stressed that any lasting resolution must be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, with a strict commitment to international law and the principle of self-determination. The statement further called upon the Security Council to take urgent action to preserve global stability and advocated for the convening of an emergency special session of the General Assembly. Additionally, the Council urged the Secretary-General to exercise his good offices to facilitate a peaceful solution, reaffirming its full readiness to support all United Nations efforts in this critical diplomatic framework.
