MUSCAT – This initiative comes within the framework of the ‘Majd’ programme, which aims to enhance local content in the energy and minerals sectors, and encourage companies and institutions to adopt initiatives that support the national economy and boost the competitiveness of vital sectors, in alignment with the targets of Oman Vision 2040.

The launch of the award is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the local content ecosystem in the energy and minerals sectors. It seeks to empower national companies and local supply chains, and encourage innovation and investment in both industrial and human capacities, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development in the Sultanate of Oman.

Led by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the ‘Majd’ programme is designed to maximise the economic opportunities associated with the energy and minerals sector by increasing the participation of national competencies, local services, and products manufactured in Oman, while also stimulating local investments in industrial assets and projects.

In its second edition, the award features four main categories: Best Omani Startup for 2026; Best Human Capital Development Initiative in the Energy and Minerals Sector; Best Local Content Program for Large Companies and the Best Local Manufacturer for the Energy and Minerals Sector.

These categories focus on highlighting initiatives and projects that develop national capacities, empower local suppliers, and promote innovation and local manufacturing. Ultimately, this supports the establishment of stronger, more sustainable national supply chains in critical sectors.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has invited companies and institutions operating in the sector to apply for the award. Nominations will be accepted until 9 April 2026, and the winners will be announced during the events of Oman Sustainability Week and the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show.

Since its inception, the ‘Majd’ programme has recorded several positive indicators, including doubling the percentage of local content in direct spending by 2021, increasing the local content index by 31.7 percent and retaining approximately USD 34 billion of economic value within the Sultanate of Oman.
Furthermore, the programme has contributed to the establishment of more than 100 new industrial facilities and workshops. It has also facilitated the implementation of numerous industrial projects related to the energy sector, such as the manufacturing of drilling equipment, rig derricks, drilling materials, and pipeline platforms. Notably, it has achieved a 93 percent job localisation rate among operating companies in the oil and gas sector.
