Muscat: According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the weather alert will be in effect from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Tuesday, following continued instability caused by an active weather system across the Sultanate.
The CAA stated that thunderstorms will begin early in the day over Al Buraimi, Ad Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, and Musandam, before gradually extending to Ad Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, North and South Al Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta governorates as the day progresses.
The alert carries a moderate to high impact intensity, with forecasts indicating rainfall of varying intensity, at times very heavy, accompanied by hail. These conditions are expected to trigger flash floods in wadis and valleys, some potentially torrential in nature.
Authorities have also warned of active downdrafts, with wind speeds ranging between 50 to 200 km/h, alongside significantly reduced horizontal visibility, which could drop to near zero during intense rainfall.
Meanwhile, parts of Dhofar Governorate may experience scattered rainfall, occasionally thundery, though with a comparatively low impact intensity.
Forecasts further suggest that scattered thunderstorms may continue through Monday night into early Tuesday morning across most northern governorates and parts of Al Wusta.
