New York – United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene a session in New York today to address the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, with a specific focus on Lebanon. The meeting, which was formally requested by France, reflects growing international concern over regional stability. During the proceedings, council members will receive comprehensive briefings from high-ranking officials, including Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

In addition to the deliberations on Lebanon, the Council is slated to vote on a significant draft resolution that condemns recent Iranian attacks directed at Arab nations. The adoption of this resolution requires a minimum of nine affirmative votes from the fifteen member states, provided that none of the five permanent members—who possess veto power—exercise their right to block the measure. The dual focus of today’s session underscores the complexity of the current geopolitical landscape and the urgent need for a coordinated diplomatic response to mitigate further escalation across the region.
