Muscat – The Photography Club at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences organised on Sunday the ‘Aks 48’ Cinematic Camp, a 48-hour filmmaking challenge, in collaboration with the Oman Film Society. The initiative aimed to support emerging cinematic talent and provide students with an intensive hands-on experience in short film production.
The camp was designed to train students and young filmmakers to produce complete short films within just 48 hours, simulating the real-life pace and pressure of the film industry. Participants went through every stage of filmmaking, starting from developing the concept and writing the script, to filming, editing, and delivering the final cut.
A total of 65 participants registered for the programme, while 21 filmmakers ultimately took part in the challenge. They were divided into three production teams that worked intensively to produce three short films within the 48-hour timeframe. The completed films will be screened as part of the Aks University Cinema Festival activities.
According to filmmaker Fahad Al Maimani, head of the Aks University Cinema Festival, the camp offered students a unique educational and creative experience by allowing them to work in a realistic film production environment.
Al Maimani said the initiative aims to transform young people’s passion for cinema into practical experience.
“Through Aks 48, participants experience the entire filmmaking journey within two days – from idea to screen. Such programmes help discover new talents in directing, cinematography and editing, while strengthening the presence of university cinema in Oman,” he said.
He added that the festival seeks to provide a supportive platform for emerging talents and encourage students to produce cinematic content that reflects human stories and experiences from society, while also promoting filmmaking culture among youth in the sultanate.
